About speech and language therapy

I work as an Independent Speech and Language Therapist with 2-7year old children. I can offer assessment and therapy for children with a range of communication difficulties in their home or at school (provided prior consent is agreed with parents and school staff). I am experienced in working with children with difficulties in the following areas:

  • Attention and listening
  • Play
  • Language difficulties (This includes understanding and/or spoken language)
  • Delayed or disordered speech skills (This includes articulation, phonological delay/disorder and developmental verbal dyspraxia)
  • Social communication difficulties

Following assessment I can design a therapy programme for your child based upon games and activities that your child is interested in, which allow them to practise their communication skills. Ideally the therapy sessions will take place in a quiet and relatively distraction free environment. I think that working together with parents/carers is fundamental to maximising progress for the child in therapy. This is why I always ask for a parent/carer to be present for every therapy session. Your child will make progress towards their targets through activities in therapy sessions as well as regular home practise. I hope it will be a partnership between you and I.

At the end of each therapy session we can discuss the home practise and your child’s progress. Each child may be different as to how many therapy sessions they will need and how frequently sessions will be delivered. This can depend on many different factors for the child and the family.
